MEET THE MODEL BIANKA DA SILVA

Updated: Dec 2, 2018

Meet Bianka Da Silva – a Miss Brazil America Winner and runway star. Today she talks to us about all things fashion week and pageants!

1.Where are you from and how did you get into this industry?

I was born in New Jersey, USA but my family is from Brazil. I got into the modeling industry through pageantry. After competing for and winning the title of Miss Brazil America Mirim 2017 I was given a lot of great opportunities. I was able to add that onto my resume and get myself into fashion shows walking for designers at New York Fashion Week both in February of 2018 and September of 2018.

2.You were recently spotted at NYFW. Tell us a bit more of what goes behind the scenes of a successful fashion week and some of your favorite parts are?

Behind the glamour of NYFW are a lot of hours of preparation. Before getting assigned to a designer you have to go to castings that can take hours of waiting in lines and standing in heels. If you make it past castings, preparations aren’t over yet! Before we even get on stage everyone is getting fitted, running around to get to hair and makeup, and practicing their walks. All of this goes into the production of a great show. Luckily I was able to get the majority of my designers through online castings. My favorite part of NYFW would have to be after all the behind the scenes commotion is over and you’re about to walk on stage and you realize what all the preparation was for. Being able to showcase the clothing in your best walk. Not feeling nervous but excited to walk the stage.

3.Congratulations on winning Miss Brazil America last year! What advice would you give to someone going into their first pageant?

Go for it! It’s a great experience and no matter what the outcome of your performance is, whether you walk out with a crown or not, you’re going to walk out with a new found confidence, a new perspective, new friends and some great memories.

4.Pageants and runways definitely have their difference and similarities! What is it like to do both?

Pageants and runways definitely have a lot of things in common and a lot of things alike. In pageants you’re more so trying to sell yourself and your personality and your smile while in a runway it’s more you trying to sell the product you’re walking in. They’re alike in the way that they are both a production for the people watching. Walking in a pageant or fashion show is a very rewarding experience because you get to meet new people and make new memories, pageants are also a really big confidence builder.
